Casting and cold work demonstrations
Working with experimental archaeology has naturally led to a know-how regarding prehistoric Bronze casting methods. Here we mainly work with hand-operated bellows, small stone lined melting pits and charcoal. Ravn P.C.T produce for these demonstrations our own clay crucibles and moulds – again replications from original finds. The crucibles and moulds are put to actual use and the melting takes place at close to 1200 degrees Celsius.
Between castings the freshly cast Bronzes are finished using annealing, engraving, polishing and more – all with prehistoric methods. The work is verbally explained in Danish, English and/or German. Ken Ravn Hedegard and Dagmar Hedegaard are fluent in these languages.
